Guidance and Counseling

I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Mike Harris, and I have been a part of the Dr. Green family since August of 1995. It has always been a pleasure to be part of a great school like the Hawks.

I attended and graduated from Hinton High School in Hinton, West Virginia. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas in El Paso. I received a Master’s in Counseling from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Before coming to Dr. Green, I worked as an elementary school teacher. As an elementary school teacher, I taught kindergarten, second, and multi-age fourth and fifth grades.

My primary responsibilities as a School Counselor are to help address the academic, career and college awareness, personal and social development of each Hawk student. I am here to offer support to the students, families, staff, and your community.I conduct classroom lessons discussing “We Help Ourselves”, harassment, anti-bullying skills, home alone, wise choices, and other topics. I meet with students individually and in small groups in time of need. I collaborate with the staff and consult with community organizations to provide services and meet the needs of each student and family at Dr. Green.

Students can ask to meet with me or they can be referred by a parent, a teacher or administrator. If you have concerns about your child please feel free to contact me.

I am here to help students reach their goals as well as provide support for Dr. Green parents and teachers. I can be contacted by e-mail at jmharris@episd.org or call at (915)231-2708.
